01 / THE IDEA

Not a uniform look—
the right form for each message

Every brief, audience, and message is different. KUMIHAN|Tugma helps AI shape typography, spacing, and hierarchy around the meaning and priorities of each piece—rather than applying one template to everything. In Tagalog, that starts by asking whether a text is to be read through, seen as a lead line or logo, or used—as a button, a price or a date.

02 / WHAT MATTERS

Four things worth getting right

Practical priorities for creating and reviewing Tagalog content.

01 / TYPE

Tagalog typography

Tagalog is the core of Filipino, but the two names are not interchangeable: Tugma works with an explicit tl or tl-PH and never silently substitutes fil. Modern Latin script comes first; Baybayin conversion is a separate editorial task, done only on explicit request. Ñ and Ng belong to the 28-letter alphabet, yet Ng is two characters, and accents as in tugmâ stay exactly as written.

02 / STRUCTURE

Purposeful structure

Shape the layout around the information, its priority, and the reader’s goal. Size, measure and leading are trialled with real Tagalog copy—headings at 1.5× and 2× body size, for example—rather than borrowed from an English template. Short words such as na, pa, ba and po are never dropped to save space, and in-word hyphens as in araw-araw are kept apart from line-end hyphenation.

03 / FIDELITY

Source fidelity

Protect names, quotations, numbers, dates, codes and intended meaning. Accents, ñ, in-word hyphens as in pag-ibig and the apostrophe ’ stay as written, and Taglish such as i-save is kept as a register, not treated as a failed translation. Ng/nang, din/rin and po are editorial calls: recorded as proposals, never changed silently.

04 / REVIEW

Read-only review

Check finished work and organize issues—without touching the files. Fonts are judged by file version and actual glyphs, not by name—in the research, Noto Sans Tagalog 2.002 covered Baybayin but had no ₱, while Source Sans 3 had ₱ but no Baybayin—and 200% zoom and 320 CSS px reflow are checked separately in a real browser.

DESIGNED FOR THE MESSAGE

Beyond arranging type
Design the reading experience

KUMIHAN|Tugma doesn't dictate a finished look. It gives AI the knowledge to adapt to each medium and brief. There is no single “Filipino look”: the typefaces studied take their shapes from hand-lettered transport and market signs or the melody of the kundiman, each for a reason. Typefaces are compared by version, character coverage and licence—Kundiman, for example, is free for personal use only.
